“You see, everyone loves bunnies, so my thought was: why not a have a little bun sanctuary at work where you could sip some tea or coffee while they scurry under your feet eating grass and doing whatever else bunnies do.”
Maggie McGrabble, a recent intern at Google, tells us that her brilliant idea to boost employee productivity didn’t quite get off the ground. “I was going to submit my idea, but got cold feet,” she says.
“In fact, I literally had cold feet most of the time I worked there — a problem that probably could have been solved by a dozen or so warm bunnies.”
While the idea might sound a little out there, consider that cat cafes have been around for years in Japan and, yes, bunny cafes too are now a thing. And Google is known for providing some pretty sweet employee perks in their quest to dominate the world, including:
- On-site medical care
- Massage therapy provided for a small fee
- Employees can spend up to 20% of their time working on their own projects
- A gym with swim-in-place swimming pools
- Video game systems, billiards, ping pong, and other fun stuff
- Free Larry Page-inspired haircuts
Yet, I suspect all these perks would all be overshadowed by “tea time with buns”. If Google truly wants to attract and retain top talent, I suggest they take this young lady’s advice… what could go wrong?
