Willfully endanger the Enterprise in VR-less Star Trek: Bridge Crew

Prepare all hands for something terrible. It’s time to go where several thousand gamers have gone before.

Just in time for a fat ol’ 50% off Steam winter sale, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is now playable without a VR headset; fantastic news for Star Trek nerds like myself still too cheap to shell out for even the most basic VR setup.

That’s right, just like Captains Kirk, Picard, and Janeway (especially Janeway) even the VR-less among us can take command of a federation starship… narrowly escaping countless terrible deaths following a string of poor decisions and overwhelmingly bad luck.

In Star Trek: Bridge Crew, which has received “very positive” reviews from players on Steam (a good sign), you “explore a largely uncharted sector of space known as The Trench, in hopes of locating a suitable new home world for the decimated Vulcan populace.” The game is set in the Kirk era, so naturally the Klingons are going to make things difficult for you.

The game can be played alone (thank goodness!) or with others, and you aren’t limited to just the captain’s chair; you can assume the role of Helm, Tactical, and Engineer as well. Pick it up on Steam for just $25 through January 4.
